Golf at Race Brook

Welcome to Race Brook Country Club.

Founded in 1912, Race Brook is one of the oldest private country clubs in Connecticut. The original 18 holes from the No. 1 course opened on July 14, 1913 on the original 145 acres owned by the club. The course was designed by Robert D. Pryde, a native of Scotland, a course architect and the first coach of the Yale University golf team. All of the greens were covered with Creeping Bent 1923 Washington strain refined by Mr. Pryde with his vision to provide "courses with well-kept fairways, splendid greens and unique and fascinating hazards which are not too difficult."

On September 23, 1926 another 18 holes were opened on the additional 125 acres purchased in 1924, making Race Brook Country Club the first 36-hole country club in New England. While the club closed the second 18 holes during WWII, after the war ended and membership levels rebounded, the club reopened 9 holes in 1951.

The main course at Race Brook has long been considered one of the finest tests of golf in New England, witness the championships contested here, most recently the 2004 New England Amateur Championship and the 2005 Connecticut PGA Championship. In September 2011, the club will host the New England Senior Amateur Championship. In June 2012, Race Brook will host the Connecticut Amateur Championship.

For nearly 100 years, our members and their guests have enjoyed unique golf courses that have consistently proven to be a superior test for golfers of all abilities. The beauty and interest of our courses still create memorable and unique experiences for us to this day.
